Session #2: Bottoms Up

When it comes to everyday styling sometimes I prefer to start from the bottom and work my way up. Whether it’s an off-day denim afternoon or I fancy digging up an old pencil-skirt for work, I can start from there and figure out the rest.

Often I buy items of clothing (usually bottoms) without knowing what to pair it with, so I recently started thinking like this: “what do I have that I can wear with this new buy? And [if I have nothing] what more do I need to buy to accompany this new buy?” I realised I had a lot of impulse buys and I stocked up on clothes that I wasn’t wearing often – if at all! Being more systematic and intentional with your wardrobe means being honest about the clothes you actually wear and what makes you comfortable.

In this session, browse my list of some essential styles required in every wardrobe. From different skirt-shapes to denim cuts, it’s important to have a little variety. A versatile collection of bottoms need not be expensive or extensive, but it will add “flavour” to your wardrobe and encourage you to reach out for abandoned items.

The Essentials:

For off-days, have at least two different denim styles: a loose-fit or “Mom Jeans” style and a slim smart style (straight-leg/skinny).
For work-wear and ocassional-styling, build up a variety of base-coloured trousers and skirts.
  • Pencil skirts
  • Fit-n-Flare skirts
  • Straight-leg trousers
  • High-waisted trousers/skirts
